Work As Unto The Lord

“He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.” – Proverbs 12:11. It’s important that we make good use of our time, and maintain good work ethic.  We should use the gifts/abilities that God has given us the way that He desires for us to use them. Today’s blog entry is titled “Work As Unto The Lord”…

We live in a world where it can be very easy for an individual to get caught up in what they want…MY GOALS, MY PLANS, WHAT I WANT TO DO…And while there is definitely a place for goal setting and planning; It’s important that we first seek God about His plans for our lives, and from there stay on the path He puts us on…Could you imagine if you went to a restaurant, and when the time came for you to place your order, the waiter/waitress selected something from the menu for you to eat without even asking you what you wanted…You probably would be thinking something such as “Excuse me, I’m going to order what I want to order, not what you want me to order.” Likewise, it’s important that we don’t just do our own thing and ask God to bless it. We should spend time seeking God, and go in the direction that He takes us in.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” – Psalm 37:23

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” – Colossians 3:23

When we seek God, and He gives us clarity about the path we should take and the things we should do, it’s important for us to move in the direction He is leading us in, and do the work that is required in order to complete the task. We have a part to play as well, as James 2:26 lets us know “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” When God gives us an assignment, it’s important that we work hard, give our best effort, and trust Him throughout the entire process. The Parable of The Talents  (See Matthew 25:14-30) shows us what happens when a person is faithful with what they have been given, and what happens when a person is not faithful with what they have been given. We shouldn’t bury what God has given us to use. We should be good stewards over everything He gives us (regardless of how big or small we may think it is). If we’re doing something ministry related, we should do it as unto the Lord. And if God blesses us with a job that is not ministry related we should do that job as unto the Lord as well.  So as we continue to grow in our Christian walk, let us remember to work as unto the Lord, and stay focused on what He has called us to do.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” - 1 Corinthians 15:58
