Communicating With God

“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore!” - 1 Chronicles 16:11 (NKJV). As Christians we can take comfort in the fact that we can communicate with God on a regular basis. This is not something we should take lightly. By communicating with God, we can grow closer in our relationship with Him, and complete the assignments that He has called us to. Today’s blog entry is titled “Communicating with God”...

Communication is an important part of everyday life. Whether it’s with family/friends, on the job, at school, etc…People share information with each other. In our relationship with God, it’s important to talk to Him and listen when He speaks to us. As it says in John 10:27-28, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

Prayer is not just about asking God to do things for us/others (There is a place for asking God for things, but there’s more to prayer than that). Prayer is a time where we can express our love for God, telling Him how much He means to us. Prayer is a time where we can thank God for the things He has done for us. Prayer is a time when we can focus on how awesome God is. When we focus on how awesome God is, it can help us put anything else we’re dealing with in the proper perspective. See Matthew 5:5-13 to see what Jesus said about prayer.

When we spend time alone with God on a regular basis, we can take our minds off of other things that could potentially distract us, and put our focus on God’s instructions. Sometimes there can be adjustments that we need to make in our lives in order to accomplish what God wants us to do. Trying to do things our own way can lead to a lot frustration, and missed opportunities. However, when we submit to God, and follow His plan, we can make a lot of progress.

Pray without ceasing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” – John 16:13 (NKJV)

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” – 2 Timothy 3:16

Prayer should be an ongoing part of our lives. It’s important that we obey God, and follow His guidance even if we don’t understand why He’s taking us down a certain path. And remember,  God will never have us doing things that are contrary to His Word. We should know the Word well, and follow what it says. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember the importance of communicating with God.

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;” - Colossians 4:2 (NKJV)
