Don't Let Insecurity Take You Off Course

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” - 2 Corinthians 4:18. Today’s blog entry is titled “Don’t Let Insecurity Take You Off Course”…

God has blessed us with talents/abilities, and there is a place for setting goals and wanting to do well in various areas of our lives (Having good work ethic is definitely a good thing). With that being said, it’s important to pursue what God wants us to pursue instead of just going out and trying to do our own thing.

When a person is insecure, they can seek validation from other people. They can also look to certain accomplishments to validate who they are. However as Christians, we should be secure in Jesus Christ. We should take comfort in the fact that Jesus loves us and is here for us regardless of how other people may feel about us. Our relationship with Jesus Christ should always be the priority. As we continue to keep our focus on Him, we can accomplish the things we’ve been called to do, and avoid pursuing the wrong things in life.

“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” – 2 Corinthians 10:12

It’s important for us to look at the motives behind the things we do, especially when it comes to ministry related things. Our goal should be to obey God, and glorify Him in the things we do. We shouldn’t get caught up in comparing ourselves to what everybody else is doing. We should stay focused on what God has called us to do.

Picture this; there is a person who runs track that is very gifted and trains on a regular basis.  One day he happens to be in close proximity to a baseball practice, so he watches the practice, and notices the way the baseball players train is very different from the way he trains.  As a result, he stops training like a track athlete and begins imitating what he saw the baseball players do (even going out and buying a baseball bat and glove).  While there are some things that baseball players do that may be beneficial to the track runner, they are still two different sports with different objectives. And training solely like a baseball player would likely cause the track runner to lose effectiveness in some other areas. Likewise in our lives, it’s important for us to stay on the path that God has put us on instead of involving ourselves in things that are not part of what God desires for us to do.

If we notice that we are insecure in an area of our lives, we should ask God to help us overcome it, and spend time in the Word building up our faith. As we continue to grow in our Christian walk, let us remember to be secure in Jesus Christ!

“Therefore you shall love the Lord your God, and keep His charge, His statutes, His judgments, and His commandments always.” - Deuteronomy 11:1 (NKJV)
