Keep Your Confidence In Christ

"For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.” – Philippians 3:3. Today’s blog entry is titled “Keep Your Confidence in Christ"...

One of the essential things for a born again believer to understand is that our “good deeds” do not save us. Jesus Christ is the only one who can save us. It’s important that we put our trust in Him, and not in ourselves. When a person first gets saved it can be easy for them to cast their cares on Jesus Christ, however as time goes on, if an individual is not careful, they can start to try to take things into their own hands.

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5 (NKJV)

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? – Jeremiah 17:9

When we stay connected to Jesus Christ, we can continue to make progress, and accomplish the things He has called us to do. However if we disconnect from Jesus, we put ourselves in a very dangerous position. We are human beings; we each have flaws/limitations. Apart from Jesus Christ, our flesh is capable of doing all kinds of sinful things. So it’s important that we don’t let our guard down (regardless of how long we’ve been saved). We should renew our mind with the Word of God everyday, and put on the whole armor of God everyday (See Romans 12:1-2 and Ephesians 6:10-18)

Patience is an important part of the Christian walk. Sometimes things may not be happening in our lives as quickly as we would like them to, or sometimes we may go through some things that we don’t understand, but it’s important that we trust God regardless of what we encounter. We should be thankful for everything that He has already done for us, and continue to give our best effort as we serve Him. If we realize that we are being led by our flesh in areas of our lives instead of being led by Jesus, it’s important that we repent, and realign ourselves with God’s will for our lives (instead of trying to do things our own way). So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to keep our confidence in Him.

“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” – Colossians 1:16
