Do your thoughts line up with God's Word?

”For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.” – Proverbs 23:7… Today’s blog entry is titled, “Do your thoughts line up with God’s Word?”

The way we think, and the things we think about can have a big impact on the decisions we make, and the direction that our lives are heading in. There are various things that can influence the way we think, which include: other people in our lives, music, television, movies, books, magazines, etc. It’s important that we are mindful of what we are taking in, and that we don’t allow anything/anyone to influence us to embrace things that are contrary to the Word of God. As it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5,

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

It’s important for us to understand who we are in Jesus Christ. We shouldn’t allow the labels that society tries to put on us to define who we are. Picture this, a person is in a large room with all the parts necessary to build a car, yet the car is unassembled, and they don’t realize that the end result would be a car. Another person comes into the room and begins making untrue statements about the parts saying “those parts are only used to make washing machines”. If the other person doesn’t know any better, the person may believe them. However someone who has a good understanding of cars could quickly point out the fact that those are car parts. Likewise, when we have a good understanding of the Word of God, we can identify the lies of the enemy.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” – Proverbs 4:7

“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 2:16

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember the importance renewing our mind with Scripture each and every day. If you’re dealing with some challenges, don’t allow yourself to become overcome with thoughts of discouragement. Continue to walk by faith. And if everything seems to be going great in your life, don’t allow yourself to get distracted by the cares of this world; remember to stay focused on Jesus Christ.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8
