Beyond Today

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,  who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.” - Philippians 3:20-21 (NJKV). Today’s blog entry is titled “Beyond Today”…

Can you think of a time when you went out to a restaurant, ordered a meal that you really like, and also ordered an appetizer (to snack on prior to your main meal arriving)?... If so, one thing that you probably had a good understanding of is that the appetizer would come first, but it wasn’t the only food you would be receiving. You also had an expectation that your main meal would be brought to you. While the appetizer may have been nice, you were really looking forward to the meal.

Likewise, it’s important that we live our lives with an eternal perspective. While there may be many things about life on earth that we enjoy, it’s important to remember that life on earth is temporary. One day we all will have to give an account to God for how we lived our lives on earth.  And as John 14:6 lets us know “ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”...Our good deeds will not get us into Heaven. We all need Jesus Christ. And once a person receives Jesus Christ, it’s important for that person to continue to obey Him and follow the path that God puts him/her on so that he/she can accomplish the things God has called him/her to do. We live in a society that can often put the focus on instant gratification, however as Christians it’s important that we trust God and do things in His timing. Even if God has called a person to do many things during their time on earth, there often is some type of preparation process that person will have to go through. Patience is important, and the decisions that we make today can have a big impact on our future. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to be good stewards over everything that God has blessed us with (including our time). Let us also remember to have an eternal perspective as we live our lives. Think beyond today.
