Remain Humble

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” – James 4:10. Today’s blog entry is titled ”Remain Humble”…

One of the lessons that many children learn as they are growing up is that they can’t always have everything they want… Some children may want to eat candy, cookies, and other sweets all the time instead of eating healthy foods. Or some kids may want to sit around and play video games all day instead of going to school. However, as a result of those children having parents/guardians who love them, they were not allowed to do whatever they wanted to do because it would ultimately be detrimental to them.

In our walk with Christ, it’s important for us to remember that God knows what’s best for us and that we should stay focused on carrying out His will above of our own desires. Remember the example of Jesus….“Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” – Luke 22:42.

Jesus is the ultimate example of humility. He came into the earth as a human and laid down His life. As Christians, it’s important for us to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Jesus (See Matthew 16:24, Luke 9:23). When people take their eyes off of Christ and focus on their own desires, it can cause them to have a higher view of themselves than they should; which can lead to bad decision making and problems they could have otherwise avoided.

“When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” – Proverbs 11:2

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” – Proverbs 16:18

”For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”- 1 John 2:16

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember the importance of keeping things in proper perspective. We should be secure in who we are in Christ. Insecurity can cause a person to seek validation from other people, however when we are secure in Jesus Christ and following Him, we can accomplish what we are called to do.

“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” - Colossians 3:12-13
