Watch and Pray

“Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.” – Mark 14:38. Today’s blog entry is titled “Watch and Pray”.

As Christians, it’s important that we stay connected to Jesus Christ every single day. When a person tries to do things in their own strength (apart from Jesus Christ), it can lead to a lot of issues/problems. However when a person is obedient to Jesus, they can accomplish the things that He has called them to do.

”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” – 1 Peter 5:8

It’s important to remember that we have an adversary. We should not be afraid of him, but we should be aware that he exists. We should be mindful of the places we go, and things we watch/listen to. It’s important for us not to open the door to the enemy in any area of our lives. When we consistently spend time praying and reading the Bible, we can continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, and receive insight about the areas of our lives that we need to improve in.

If God shows us that we have a weakness in a certain area of our lives, we shouldn’t ignore it. We should be receptive to what He is communicating to us, and follow the instructions that He gives us so that we can become stronger in the area. Think of it like this…There’s a talented basketball player who does a great job on offense (he can shoot well, handle the ball well, pass well, etc), however he’s not a good defender, so his coach has a talk with him, and gives him some instructions on what he needs to do to improve his defense. If the player ignores his coach’s instructions and only focuses on the offensive side of his game, he won’t reach his full potential as a player. Likewise, when a person doesn’t follow God’s instructions, it can lead to a lot of problems/issues that could have otherwise been avoided. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to watch and pray.

”I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” - John 15:5-8
