Don't Be Deceived, Stay In God's Word

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John 4:1-4. Today’s blog entry is titled “Do Not Be Deceived, Stay In God’s Word”…

Have you ever had someone tell you something that you believed to be true, only to find out later that they were lying to you?... If so, it probably left you with a feeling that you didn’t like. It’s one thing when someone tells you a lie and you can immediately tell that it’s a lie, versus when someone tells you a lie but you honestly believe it to be the truth.  In today’s society, many people base their belief system on their own desires instead of what the Bible says.  As Christians it’s important for us have a good understanding of God’s Word so that we aren’t led astray by the lies of the enemy. Spending time in prayer, and reading the Bible are important parts of the Christian walk that help us understand how to live lives that are pleasing to God.

Picture this, you work in a certain department at your job, and you know everybody in that department very well. You’ve also been in every room of that department and can easily recall each room from memory. So anyhow, one day (outside of work) you meet someone new and start having a conversation. After you mention where you work and what department you work in, the person you just met says, “Hey! I know those people in that department. I make deliveries there each week.”  The person then begins naming various names, none of whom are people that actually work in that department. The person then begins describing the inside of the office, giving a description that doesn’t look anything like the office you work in.  Upon hearing this, you would clearly know that the information the person is giving you is false because you know the department very well. Likewise when we have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ, and spend time in the Word of God, we can identify things going on in the World that don’t line up Scripture.

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” – Joshua 1:9

As Christians we should not be afraid to speak the truth in love to others. We live in a time where many people have an incorrect view of God. It’s important that we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, regardless of what the World says. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us remember to stay in God’s Word, consistently spend time in prayer, and speak the truth to the various people that we encounter.

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” – Romans 1:20
