Encouraging Others

“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV). Today’s blog entry is titled “Encouraging Others”…

If you’ve read my blog before, you may already know that I ran cross country in high school. The races were 5K  (3.1 miles), and they took place at various courses. As people watch the race, they may position themselves on different parts of the course and cheer on the runners as they go by. When a runner is on certain parts of the course and see people they know shouting encouraging words to them, it can help serve as motivation. Likewise, as people are growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ, and they receive encouragement from their brothers and sisters in Christ, it can help serve as motivation.

Can you remember a time in your life where someone said or did something that really encouraged you? Maybe you were starting to focus on the wrong things and they said something to help you put things in the right perspective. Or maybe you were having difficulty walking by faith, and they gave you some Bible verses to help build your faith. If the person was genuine and said what they said out of love, there’s a good chance that you appreciated it. And when we encourage others, being genuine and doing it out love, they will likely appreciate it as well. Sometimes just sharing a life experience that God brought you through can have a huge impact on another person.

“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;  but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” – Hebrews 3:12-13 (NKJV)

As born again Christians, we should making disciples. We should be led by God and helping others grow in their relationship with Him. It’s important that we keep our focus on what God has called us to do, and point people to God’s Word for the answers to the questions they may have about life. God’s love for us is a very special thing, and when a person has an understanding of that, it can help that person be encouraged and motivated to complete the tasks that God has called him/her to do. So as we continue to grow in our walk Christ, let us remember the importance of encouraging others.

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (NKJV)
