Keep Going Strong

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,” – Hebrews 12:1. Today’s blog entry is titled “Keep Going Strong”…

Have you ever been watching a sporting event where one team jumped out to an early lead and really looked like they would win easily…However as time went on, they let their guard down, and stopped playing as hard as they were at first. As a result the opposing team was able to make a comeback (and in some situations win the game). As Christians it’s important that we don’t let our guard down or become lax in the assignments that God has given us. We should stay focused on Christ, and continue to make progress. As it says in Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

“And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” – Mark 4:19

It’s important that we don’t allow the cares of this world to distract us from what we should be doing. Our desire should be to continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, and to tell others about Him. Sometimes a person can start off with the intent to do this, but lose focus as time goes on. Regardless of what is going on in our lives, we should always be making time for God. Spending time with God and reading the word is an essential part of our growth as Christians. If we ever start to notice that our lives our out of balance (meaning that we’re not giving God the time that we should), it’s important that we realign ourselves so that we are doing things God’s way and not our own.

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” – Colossians 3:2

When we renew our minds with the Word of God, it can help us to live our lives with an eternal perspective. This life on earth is temporary, and we should not allow the pursuit of “earthly success” to take us out of God’s will for our lives. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that we should neglect the responsibilities that we have in this life, but I am saying that we should always keep God as our top priority, and have the proper balance and perspective when it comes to how we handle things in this life. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us keep going strong!

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” – Ephesians 6:10-11
