A Lifestyle Of Giving

“Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.” - Deuteronomy 16:17. Today’s blog entry is titled “A Lifestyle of Giving”…

Thanksgiving and Christmas are a time of year where many people give to help others. And while it’s definitely good to help people during that time of the year, it’s also good to give/help during the other parts of the year as well. Can you think back to a time when you gave someone something and they really appreciated it? Chances are it probably gave you a good feeling. Giving to others is another way to show forth the love of Jesus Christ. Sometimes something such as treating someone to lunch can really have a big impact on them.

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Matthew 6:21

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” - Mark 8:36

Regardless of how much money/resources we accumulate while on earth, it’s important that we live our lives with an eternal perspective remembering that things on earth will pass away. We should be good stewards over the things God blesses us with; however we should never allow those things to dominate our lives. Selfishness and greed should not be a part of our lives at all.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” – Luke 6:38

When we give, it’s important that we do so with the right motives. The purpose for our giving should not be to draw attention to ourselves, or show off to other people. Our giving should be motivated by our love for Jesus Christ, and our love for other people. So as we continue to grow in our Christian walk, let us live a lifestyle of giving.

“So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7
