Applying God's Word

“For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.” - James 1:23-24. It’s important that we read God’s Word, and it’s also important that we put what we read into practice. Today’s blog entry is titled, “Applying God’s Word .”

Picture this, you have a particular dish that you prepare very well, and as a result, a friend of yours asks you for the recipe. You gladly give your friend the recipe, and your friend later calls you saying that he/she attempted to make the dish, but it doesn’t taste anything like yours. After you ask some questions, you find out that your friend read the recipe, however your friend didn’t follow the instructions. Upon learning this information, you are able to easily identify why your friend’s version of the dish doesn’t taste like yours. Following instructions was necessary in order to produce the desired recipe results, and we can apply this same mindset to our Christian walk. Following God’s Word is important to carrying out God’s plan for our lives.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” – 2 Peter 3:18

As Christians, The Word of God should be real to us. We should be meditating on it on a regular basis. Remember that we serve God Almighty. He is powerful, and He has equipped us with the tools that we need in order to carry out His plan for our lives. If we face a challenging situation in our lives, we should speak the Word regarding the situation and continue to advance. If everything in our lives seems to be going perfect, we should still continue to speak the Word, and continue to make progress. It’s important that we stay disciplined in our spiritual lives, and focused on doing God’s will.

“Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1-2 KJV

As we follow Christ it’s important to remember that His ways are different than the world’s ways. Some people may think you’re weird for living the Christian lifestyle, but don’t let that distract you. Remember it’s how God views you that really counts.

So as we continue to grow in our Christian walk let us remember to apply God’s Word to our lives, and stay focused on carrying out His will.

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” - 2 Timothy 2:15

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” - 2 Peter 1:3-4
