Are You Listening?

In order to follow directions, it’s important for a person to listen to (and have a good understanding of) the instructions they receive. When God gives us insight about a situation, we should listen and respond with obedience. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” – John 10:27. Today’s blog entry is titled “Are You Listening?”

Have you ever been talking to someone about something that was important to you and they seemed preoccupied with something else? Maybe you were trying to tell them about something great that happened to you earlier in the day. Or maybe you wanted to give them a heads up about something that would be beneficial to them. A person not paying attention to you would probably send you the message that they placed more value on what they were currently doing than what you’re currently saying. In our walk with Christ, it’s very important that we place a high value on our time with Him, and what He says to us. If God sends us warning signals about a certain situation, we should not ignore them. We should seek God for the proper path to take, and move forward according to His direction.

“Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” – Psalm 25:5

Sometimes when we’re dealing with a situation in our lives, it can be easy to respond to it in a natural way (based on our human instincts). And when following our instincts doesn’t produce the type of results we are looking for, it can lead to us searching for answers and trying other methods. It’s important for us to remember that Jesus is the answer to any problem that we’re dealing with. When we rely upon Him instead of what the world/tradition says we should do; we can get a lot accomplished. Spending time seeking God can be the difference between getting the understanding we need in order to make the right decision, and continuing to search for a solution to a problem that we have been facing for a while. God may take us down a path that we don’t understand at the time. But it’s important that we trust Him even when we don’t understand the way that He’s working in our lives. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let’s make sure that we pay close attention to Him, and follow the instructions that He gives us.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” – Revelation 3:20
