Are You Making Disciples?

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” – Matthew 28:19-20. Today’s blog entry is titled “Are You Making Disciples?”

Sharing the Gospel, and helping others grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, is part of the Christian walk. We live in a society where there are many people who know some things about Jesus, and yet don’t know Him as Lord and Savior. Some people who fit into this category, may even attend church on a regular basis, and yet still not be saved. As it says in Matthew 7:21, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” This is obviously a very serious thing because people who die without Jesus Christ go to hell, so we should be doing the best job we can to let others know the truth.

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31

Our love for God, should motivate us to want to please Him, and tell others about His love. Our love for others should cause us to genuinely want them to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and continue to grow in their relationship with Him. After we lead a person to Christ, it’s important that we don’t stop there; we should also play a role in helping them grow in their relationship with Christ.

And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly[a] received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. - Acts 2:40-42 (NKJV)

There’s a lot of things going on in society that do not line up with the Word of God. If we want to bring about change, we should speak the truth, and live it out in front of others. As other people get saved they can do the same thing, and continue the cycle of growth. Take a moment and picture a city/place/environment that is especially known for having a large amount sinful activity. Now imagine what would happen if everyone in that city/place/environment genuinely got saved. That city/place/environment would change because the people have changed. It’s not to say things would be perfect, but there would be improvement.

As we continue to grow in our relationship with Christ, let us continue to represent Him publicly, and help others grow in their relationship with Him.

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,  praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church[a] daily those who were being saved. – Acts 2:46-47 (NKJV)
