Be Content In Christ

“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:  I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” – Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV). It’s important that we are content in every situation that God places us in. Today’s blog entry is titled “Be Content In Christ”…

Throughout the course of our lives we can go through many different types of experiences. There may be times that you remember in your own life where it felt like a lot of things were going just the way you wanted them to go. There may also be times in your life where it felt like a lot of things weren’t going the way you wanted them to.

As Christians it’s important that we keep our faith in Christ regardless of what type of situation we’re in. If we’re experiencing a lot of success, we should continue to remain humble and give God the glory, and if we’re going through some challenges, we should continue to be thankful to Jesus, and rely upon Him to help us overcome the situation we’re dealing with.

“But as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let him walk. And so ordain I in all churches.” - 1 Corinthians 7:17

It’s important for us to embrace who God has called us to be. We shouldn’t covet to be other people, we should follow God’s plan for our lives, and play the role that He designed us to play. When God is directing our path, we can take comfort in the fact that He will do what’s best for us. Sometimes what He thinks is best for us, may be different than what we think is best for us, but remember God’s ways are higher than our ways (See Isaiah 55:8-9). It’s important that we approach life with an eternal perspective, and not just look at the things that are happening on earth.

Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”– Hebrews 13:5

By being content, I don’t mean that we should just be sitting around doing nothing; but rather that we should make the most of whatever situation God places us in. It’s a good idea to plan and set goals, however if God takes us a different route than we planned to go, we should obey Him, even if we don’t understand it. So as we continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ, let us remember to always be content in Him.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” – 1 Timothy 6:6-7
