Be Patient

When we’re really looking forward to something specific happening in our lives, “patience” may not be a word that we want to hear. However being able to have patience is very important. “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” – James 1:4. Today’s blog entry deals with being patient.

If you’ve every baked/cooked something before, one thing that you probably realized is the importance of understanding how long it would take the particular item/dish to cook before it was ready. Different dishes may take different amounts of time to cook. If you take the item out of the oven before it is done cooking, it will likely result in the food not tasting so good, or at least not tasting as good as it could have tasted had it cooked as long as it should have. Even if a person is extremely hungry, they should still be patient, and let the food fully cook, instead of rushing the process and taking it out of the oven prematurely.

And while this may make sense when applied to cooking, it may be a little bit easier to overlook when applied to our everyday lives. When we are studying the Bible, and passionately seeking God, we may get to the point where we feel like we’re not progressing as fast as we would like to. And while we may be a lot more mature in our Christian walk than we once were, it’s important that we don’t leave the path that God has us on. Sometimes we may be hungry to do more, but it’s important that we finish the process that God has put before us, and that we do so in a thankful manner.

“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.” - Ecclesiastes 7:8

It’s important that we learn the things that we need to learn during this current season of our life, and make the most of the current opportunities God has blessed us with. Don’t be distracted by the “What everybody else is doing mindset”. In other words, don’t feel like you have to compare yourself to everybody else. You are a unique individual, and it’s important for you to be secure with who you are in Jesus Christ. If insecurity is not dealt with, it can lead to big problems down the road. It’s important that we examine ourselves, and take an honest look at the areas we need to improve in.

As we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us stay motivated to carry our His plan, and remain patient throughout the process.

“And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.” – Hebrews 6:15
