Be Secure In Christ

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 2:5…As Christians, it’s important to know who we are in Christ, and to approach each day with the proper mindset. When a person has the wrong mindset, it can lead to insecurity, and insecurity can open up the door to a lot of other problems. Today’s blog entry deals with being secure in Christ.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. – 2 Corinthians 5:17

It’s important for a born again believer to realize that they are a new creature. We should embrace the new person that we are in Jesus Christ, and strive to be more like Him each and every day. We should learn from the mistakes that we’ve made in the past, however we should not continue to beat ourselves up over the mistakes that we’ve made in the past. We also should realize that when God has chosen us to do something, it is Him that gives us the power to do it. Don’t focus on your weakness; focus on God’s strength.

For instance, say you have someone who had a bad experience when giving a speech for class back in Junior High (Classmates laughed and cracked jokes about their speech). So as a result the person developed a complex and avoids public speaking even as an adult. They later get saved, and their Pastor is really moved by their testimony and asks if the person would take 15 minutes and share their testimony with the entire congregation in the future. The person says “I’m sorry Pastor but I don’t do public speaking”. What this person doesn’t realize is that there are a number people at the church who would really be ministered to by hearing their testimony. Instead of focusing on what happened to them in the past when they spoke in public, they should rely upon God to give them the strength to overcome their fears/insecurities. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7

Male/Female relationships are another area where insecurities can come to the forefront in a lot of different ways (more ways than I’m going to go into detail here). Say for instance there is an individual that had a bad experience in a relationship with someone of the opposite sex. The person they were dating may have made some rude remarks about their appearance, or about something that they do, and as a result they second-guess themselves. However, they eventually get saved and end the relationship with the person that made the rude remarks. Moving forward it is very important for this person to avoid continuing to relive the negative things that were said about them. Instead they should rehearse what the Word of God says. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” – 1 Peter 2:9. They should also forgive the person who wronged them (by forgiving I don’t mean jump back in a relationship with them unless of course God brings the two of them back together down the road, but by forgiving I mean letting go of the past and not holding a grudge against them). If a person doesn’t let go of the past in a situation like that, it can cause problems in a future relationship.

We live in a society where many people seek validation from other people, however as Christians, we should be focusing on pleasing God. Be secure with who you are in Christ. Renew your mind. And keep progressing in the Lord!

“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind Christ.” - 1 Corinthians 2:16
