Becoming Strong in Areas Where We Used to Be Weak

Sometimes a person can be very focused on continuing to develop their strengths in various areas of their life, and yet overlook making improvements in areas where they have weaknesses. Failing to address weaknesses (Even if those weaknesses appear to be small in their own eyes) can lead to a person missing out on opportunities they otherwise would have gotten. “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.”- Galatians 5:9 (NKJV) Today’s blog entry is titled “Becoming Strong in Areas Where We Used to Be Weak”

If a person wants to reach their full potential as an athlete, it’s important that they work hard at their sport(s), eat well, get the proper amount of rest, etc. They should continue to get stronger in areas where they’ve had success in the past, and they also should strive to make improvements in areas where they’ve been weak in the past. For example, if a basketball player has been doing a great job on offense, but hasn’t been having much success playing defense. It’s important for the player to not only focus on becoming a better offensive player, but also to take a close look at how they can improve their defense, and make constant effort to do so. If a player addresses their weaknesses, it puts them in a better position to have success against their competition, however if they don’t address those weakness, it puts them in a position where their competition can continue to take advantage of them in that area.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13

As Christians it’s important that we continually make an effort to address weaknesses in our lives, as well as continue to develop our strengths. Remember that it is through Christ that we are made strong. Overlooking/Not addressing a particular weakness in a person’s life could be one of the main reasons they have not advanced in a certain area of their life. For example, a person may meet the qualifications, and have the skill set to do a certain job that they desire, and yet not get the job because they have issues with being on time to work.

And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us take a close look at our lives, and work on making improvements in areas where we’ve been weak in the past. Always remember to rely upon God to overcome any challenge that you’re dealing with, His “Strength is made perfect in weakness.”

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31
