Don't Allow Scoffers To Distract You

We live in a world where many people put their time and energy into things that are in direct opposition to the Bible, and some also openly mock Christians for being obedient to God. As Christians, we shouldn’t allow mocking/scoffing (or anything else) to take us off of the path that God has us on. “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,” – 2 Peter 3:3. Today’s blog entry is titled, “Don’t Allow Scoffers To Distract You”...

As Christians it’s important that we don’t get caught up in comparing ourselves to “everybody else” (this includes both Non – Christians and Christians as well). We should be secure in Christ, and follow His plan for our lives. Within the body of Christ, we should play our position and avoid coveting another person’s position. We also shouldn’t covet the things that unbelievers have, nor should we compromise the truth to try to fit in with them. Before I went deeper into the subject of “not allowing scoffers to distract you”, I wanted to establish the importance being secure in Christ, and valuing God’s Truth over another person’s opinion, whether they profess to be a Christian or not.

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” – 1 Corinthians 1:18

There are a lot of things that are popular in today’s society that do not line up with the Word of God; but this should never cause us to follow along and accept those sinful activities as being ok. If people say negative things about your Christian walk, or about Christianity in general, don’t let it discourage you. Pray for them, and continue moving forward. Be mindful of how you respond/spend time with a person who scoffs. There is a difference between a person who is genuinely trying to get an understanding of the
Gospel versus someone who is trying to bait you into fruitless arguments/discussions (Remember Matthew 7:6). It’s important to be led by God in the way we respond to others.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” – 2 Peter 3:8-10

Regardless of what the world says, we all will have to give an account to God for the way the we lived our lives on earth. So as we live each day of our lives, let us remember to look at things from an eternal perspective and conduct ourselves in a manner that glorifies God.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” – Proverbs 29:25
