Don't Be Afraid to Speak Up

If you had the opportunity to observe a classroom of young students, and you witnessed a teacher teaching those students false information, saying that “2 +2 = 17, 10 x 10 =34… and so on” you would probably feel some sort of obligation to make sure the children knew the truth. Likewise as Christians, we should want to share the truth of God’s Word with others. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6 (NKJV). Today’s blog entry is titled, “Don’t Be Afraid to Speak Up”…

If you’re a person who reads and understands the Bible; and you spend time observing different things that happen in the world, it’s not hard to see that there are a lot of things going on that don’t line up with the Bible. This can leave a person who is passionate about Jesus Christ wondering what they should do to help bring about change. The Bible lets us know that we should be making disciples (See Matthew 28:19). As we share the Truth with others, they in turn can share the truth, and it can be an ongoing cycle. And while we may encounter people who reject the message, we shouldn’t allow that to discourage us. We should continue to share it with other people.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” – Psalm 27:1

It’s important that we don’t allow fear to stop us from speaking the truth. We also shouldn’t allow ourselves to become overwhelmed by everything that’s wrong with the world. Through Christ, we have the ability to impact our communities in a positive way. And think about it like this, if more Christians across the nation/world start speaking up in their local communities, it can collectively have a huge impact on a national/international level. When we work together and function as a body we can get a lot accomplished. We need to stay focused on the Mission (Making Disciples). It’s important that we’re alert to what’s going on, and that we don’t allow things like entertainment to distract us from the big picture. Don’t get me wrong, I understand there’s a place for entertainment, having leisure time, etc... However my point is that we shouldn’t be so caught up in entertainment that we ignore issues that need to be addressed. For instance a parent should be aware of what their child is being taught in school. And if that child is being taught things that don’t line up with the Bible, that parent should intervene, and make sure their child understands the truth.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:32

It’s important that we don’t allow society to desensitize us to sin. God’s Word trumps what everybody else says; whether they’re a celebrity, politician, etc… So we should never allow anyone to influence us to accept sinful things that don’t line up with the Word of God. As it says in Philippians 2:10-11 “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us be bold and courageous. Let us be alert of what’s going on. And let us continue to speak the truth, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NKJV)
