Don't Return to Your Old Lifestyle

After a person becomes a born again Christian it’s important for them to understand that they are a new creature. As it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Sometimes friends or others close to a person may not understand the change that has taken place; and they may even try to get the person to return to their old lifestyle.  Today’s blog entry is titled “Don’t Return to Your Old Lifestyle”…

“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” – Romans 13:14

One thing some Christians may encounter, is people from their past who want to bring up their past, and want to get them involved in sinful activities. As Christians, it’s important for us to make sure that we keep our focus on Jesus. We should also be careful of the environments that we go to, and the people that we spend time around. If a person is constantly being a negative influence in your life, it’s probably a good idea to put some distance between you and that person. You can still pray for them, and witness to them, but it’s a good idea to have boundaries.

“Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.”– Proverbs 7:2-3

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” – 2 Timothy 2:15

Learning God’s Word is an essential part of Christian growth. We should spend time reading the Bible on regular basis. By doing so we can have an understanding of how we should be living as Christians. When we know the truth, we can avoid opening ourselves up to things that would affect us negatively.

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” – Hebrews 10:25

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” – Proverbs 27:17

It’s important for us to fellowship with other believers. By doing so, we can learn from each other, and encourage each other. Having interaction with other believers can help us maintain our focus, and continue to make progress in our Christian walk. It’s important to remember that we are not alone. First and foremost we have God. And we also have brothers and sisters in Christ.

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to love Him with all of our heart. Let us also spend time in prayer and reading the Bible on a regular basis; and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. And if you ever experience challenging times in your Christian walk remember....

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” - Philippians 4:13
