Help Others

How would you feel if someone came along and provided you with the help that you needed to complete a big task that you've been trying to accomplish for quite some time?...Now I would like to reverse that question, and ask, Is there someone in your life that you know could really use your help right now to complete a task? "I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35. Today's blog entry is titled "Help Others".

In last week's blog entry, I talked about having a plan. It's very important to seek God as you're putting your plan together, and continually monitor your progress. With this being said, I also think it's important that we also make time to help others. As we continue to make progress in our lives, we should never allow ourselves to become selfish. There is definitely a difference between having a drive to succeed, and being self-centered. We should never lose sight of the fact that God has given us the abilities that we have. As it says in Deuteronomy 8:18, "But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day."

So you may be thinking to yourself, who should I help? And how will I help them? If we're wondering who could use our help, it's a good idea to spend time in prayer, and ask God to guide us in that area. As we start to take a closer look at our lives (and the people in our lives) we will likely find many opportunities to help others. Sometimes help may come in the form of: assisting someone with yard work, taking someone (who doesn’t have a vehicle) grocery shopping, tutoring/helping a student with their homework, etc. Another thing that may give us insight as to how we can help another person is to put yourself in their shoes and think “If I was them, what are the type of things I would like to receive help with?"

When we’re helping others, it should be motivated by Love. We shouldn’t help (give to) others with ulterior motives. We should be motivated by Jesus. He laid down His life for us, so we should be willing give to others. “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:28.
Each day we have an opportunity to impact someone’s life in a positive way; So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us continue to help others, and be thankful to God for everything that He has done for us.

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” – Philippians 2:4
