How is Your Heart?

"Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." – Matthew 12:34. The things we say can reveal what’s going on in our hearts. And our hearts can give a lot of insight about how we feel about God. Today’s blog entry is titled “How is Your Heart?”….

As Christians our true identity should be found in Jesus Christ….Not our education, career, money, etc. It’s important that we put much more value on how God views us than we do on how other people view us. Pleasing God should be the motivation for the things we do. It’s a good idea to take an honest look at our lives and see what’s really motivating us to do what we do.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. – Proverbs 4:23

We should truly cherish our relationship with Jesus Christ. We should spend quality time with Him making/keeping Him the priority in our lives. Sometimes we may face situations where we’re trying to figure out a solution to an issue we’re dealing with. During these types of situations, we shouldn’t take our focus off Christ, we instead should continue to spend time with Him and seek Him for wisdom regarding our situation.

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. – Luke 6:45

If God reveals to us that we have an issue with our hearts, we should repent, and focus our attention on Him. One of the by-products of spending more time with God is that we grow as Christians, and live lifestyles that are more pleasing to Him. Trying to change our outward actions, without changing what’s going on in our hearts ultimately will not produce that type of results that we should producing as Christians. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us make sure that we spend quality time with Him, and that our motivation is to please Him.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. – 1 Samuel 16:7
