How Much Do You Want God?

So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich. And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! – Luke 18:22-24.

It’s important that we put God ahead of everything else, and are willing to give up anything/everything He asks us to. Today’s blog entry is titled “How Much Do You Want God?”If we don’t renew our minds with the Word of God, it can be very easy to get caught up in ourselves….Going where we want to go, accomplishing the goals we want to accomplish, spending our time the way we want to spend it. However if we have truly given our lives to Christ, we should put what He wants above what our flesh wants to do. It’s good for us to examine our lives and look at how much time we spend doing things that have eternal significance. This isn’t to say that we can’t have any leisure time, but rather to point out the importance of having the proper priorities in our lives.

“Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.” – Psalm 34:3

Our focus should be on worshipping God, and carrying out the things He has called us to do. We should avoid being self-centered. And while this may seem like something that is obvious, we can spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves (on a regular basis) without even realizing it. For instance with something like evangelizing, sometimes a person may not evangelize to another person because they’re concerned about how that other person will view them. Or maybe when a person is around their unsaved co-workers, classmates, etc. they’re hesitant to let them know they’re a Christian. It’s important that we’re not fearful of others. As it says in Matthew 10:32-33, “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him
I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”

Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established. – Proverbs 16:3

It’s important for us to truly be committed to God. We should keep Him first in every area of our lives. We should be obeying His Word and making disciples. It’s important that we don’t allow the cares of this world to distract us from spending time with God. So as we continue to grow in our Christian walk, let us remember to give God our very best effort.

“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” – Romans 8:5
