How to Respond to someone you Think May be Lukewarm

Do you know someone in your life that you think may be Lukewarm in regards to how they view/represent Jesus Christ? It’s important that we let people know the truth about what it means to be Lukewarm (and why they should avoid being Lukewarm). “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” – Revelation 3:16…Today’s blog entry is titled “How to Respond to someone you Think May be Lukewarm”….

Before I go any further into this subject, I want to make sure that I point out that it’s important for us to examine our own lives and make sure that we are truly following Jesus. It can be easy to overlook our own faults and point the finger at someone else’s. The point of this blog topic isn’t to tear people down, or be mean, but rather to talk about how to speak the truth in love, so that people can really have an understanding of where they currently stand with God. As Christians we should genuinely love people and tell them what the Word of God says.

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” – Deuteronomy 30:19

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:13

As Christians, we acknowledge that our own “goodness” will not get us into Heaven, and that we must repent of our sins and put our trust in Jesus Christ. Going to church, and reading the Bible are both important things to do, but if a person hasn’t repented and put their trust in Jesus, they aren’t truly saved (even if they regularly attend church, and read their Bible every day). See Romans 3:23-26

There are some people who choose to try to live two different lifestyles. When they get around their Christian friends they act one way, and when they’re around their non-Christians friends that act another way. They want to be accepted by God, and yet they also want to be accepted by the world. If we know someone who falls into this category, we should let them know that Christians are to be set apart. As it says in 1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;”

Sometimes people may try to justify why they live two different lifestyles; but in many situations if we can get people to think logically about the way they’re living, they can eventually acknowledge that what they’re doing is wrong. For instance, if you ask someone if they would be ok with being in a relationship with a person, and then having that person jump in a relationship with someone else at the same time, most people would probably say NO! And likewise we have to choose between God, and the devil. We can’t live for both of them. As it says in Romans 6:16 “ Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?”

It’s important for people to remember that we do have an adversary, the devil, who wants to kill, steal, and destroy. He tries to deceive and distract people to take their focus off of God. As Christians we shouldn’t allow the enemy to distract us, we should warn others about the tactics he uses so that they are aware of what’s going on. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to examine our lives, and speak the truth to others in love.

“No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” – Luke 16:13
