How To Respond To Tragedy

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7…..Today’s blog entry is titled “How To Respond To Tragedy.”

Let us continue to pray for the families of the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut. It’s sad to see evil acts of violence taking place in society. Let us also continually intercede for this nation (and the world as a whole). We live in a fallen world, and Jesus Christ is the only answer…. He’s the one who changes a person’s heart. Apart from Jesus Christ, the human heart is wicked (“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9), and with that being said, it’s so important that we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. It’s also important to show forth love and support to people who have experienced tragic events in their life. When people feel the love of others; it can help during the overall healing process.

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

When tragic events take place, (whether it’s a natural disaster, an accident, or an intentional shooting done by a person) one of the things that often comes to mind is the question “why”?…Why did this happen?....This can be a difficult thought process that results in a number of emotions (such as sorrow/ anger). As humans beings, it’s important to realize that there are some things that we just won’t understand in this life. But we can take comfort in the fact that God is still on the throne! It’s important that we keep trusting Him regardless of what happens in our lives, and regardless of what happens in the world. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to get mad at God, and we shouldn’t drift away from Him. We should continually cling to Him.

“ Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:39

It’s important to remember that by Jesus’ stripes we were healed (See Isaiah 53:5, and 2 Peter 2:24). And while the healing process can definitely be difficult at times, Jesus is here for us, to lead us and guide us through the things that we experience in life. So as we live our lives, let us remember to pray for the families of those that have lost loved ones. Let us also pray that more people receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and let us regularly evangelize and disciple others. Don’t ever lose hope, don’t ever give up. Continue to trust in Jesus Christ!

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” – John 14:1
