Humility

Regardless of how much success we attain, or how much knowledge we accumulate, we should always remain humble. “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” - James 4:6. Today's blog entry deals with humilty.

My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O Magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. - Psalms 34:2-4

God has blessed each of us with different types of gifts/abilities, and we should be using those gifts/abilities to glorify Him. We should remember that He is the one that gave us the power to be successful (See Deuteronomy 8:18). Being humble doesn't mean that you verbally hurl insults at yourself (It's ok to say thank you when someone gives you a compliment such as “You did a really good job when you spoke last week). However a person that is humble doesn't think more highly of themselves than they should. The Bible gives a lot of instruction on how we should carry ourselves.

A humble person realizes that they don't have all the answers. This can be especially important to remember when we're dealing with challenges in our personal lives that we don't understand. An attribute of a humble person is to be obedient to God through tough situations, instead of trying to take things into their own hands. We should not have self pity, we should cast our cares upon the Lord.

“Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humilty.” - Proverbs 18:12

Being humble goes beyond the words we speak. Humility is also shown through a person's actions. It's important that we truly live lifestyles that are Christ centered, and not self centered. If we have unresolved self esteem issues, we should pray to God about it, and seek Him for the how to overcome it. We shouldn't allow ourselves to get caught up in getting vain glory. Avoid being a people pleaser. Remember God sees our hearts. He knows what's driving us.

It's important that we take the time to learn the things that God desires for us to learn. We should play the position that God has given us to the best of our abilities. And if God blesses you with something always remember to keep things in their proper perspective. Never make an idol of it. Remember that just as quickly as you received it, it could also be taken away. Live life to the fullest in Jesus Christ. Be thankful. Be humble.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. - Phillippians 2:5-8
