In Everything Give Thanks

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Have you ever just took some time to reflect on all of the great things God has done for you. As born again Christians, we have so much to be thankful for! Today’s blog topic is, “In Everything Give Thanks.”

Have you ever been going through a really challenging time when it seemed like nothing was going your way, only to come across another person whose circumstances appeared to be whole lot worse than yours (which caused you to feel like what you were dealing with wasn’t so bad)? Sometimes perspective can really change our outlook on life. With this in mind, it’s very important that we think positive thoughts (see Philippians 4:8). If a person is constantly thinking thoughts such as “this never goes my way”, they can start to develop a mindset of complaining and being unthankful. We should give thanks to God, even if things are not happening the way we would like them to.

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” – Romans 1:20-21

The 21st verse of the passage above lets us know that the people did not glorify God, and they were not thankful. They became futile in their thoughts, and their hearts were darkened….The consequences of being unthankful are not good. Remember we are here to honor and serve God. When we complain about our lives, it takes our focus off of how Great God is. Instead of complaining, we should be rejoicing! As it says in Philippians 4:4-7, “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Never take the things that God has blessed with you with for granted. Luke 17:11-19, tells the story of ten lepers (leprosy is a disease) that were cleansed of their condition. Of the ten that were cleansed, only 1 came back and thanked Jesus. In our lives we should never get to the point where we overlook thanking God. We should remember that God is the one who has given us life. He is the one who first loved us. So if you’re ever feeling like things are going bad in your life, remind yourself of how great God is, and all of the things He has done for you. Be strong, and remain faithful in your walk with Christ.

“I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:12-13
