It's About More Than You and I

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16. The things that we do and the decisions we make effect more than just ourselves. The experiences we go through can have an impact on the lives of others as well. Today’s blog entry is titled “It’s About More Than You And I”…

About 2 years or so ago, I had a conversation in a restaurant with another brother who is involved in Christian/Gospel music. We talked about various things, and shared some experiences we had. I’ve volunteered at a correctional facility doing prison ministry in the past, and that came up during the conversation. There was a couple sitting next to us who had apparently been listening to our conversation. They left before we did, and as they were getting ready to leave, the man said something to the effect of, keep up the good work, to us. He had a very serious look on his face too (so did the woman). The thing about it is I didn’t realize our conversation was having that type of effect on them… People are watching, and people are listening, so it’s important that we carry ourselves in a way that glorifies God.

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.” – Isaiah 60:1

What we say and do in public is important. What we do in private is important as well. As a matter of fact, what we do in private can have an effect on what we do in public. Think about it like this, if a sports team never practices collectively (or as individuals), chances are it’s going to be noticeable on game day when they match up again a team who has been practicing. However, if the team practices, they will likely perform better on game day. As Christians, it’s important for us to consistently spend quality time with God. When we meditate on the Word on a regular basis, it can help us to respond the right way in everyday types of situations. It’s doesn’t mean that we won’t make mistakes, however we put ourselves in a better position to respond the right way when we stay in the Word of God.

“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” - Philippians 2:15

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us remember that the experiences we’ve gone through (and are going through) can be beneficial to others, so it’s important for us to continue to follow God’s plan for our lives. Remember to shine the light of Jesus Christ each and every day. It’s about more than You and I.

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 4:6
