Keep Moving Forward

The New Year has arrived! There are many of us that have things that we would like to get accomplished this year. As we move forward in 2013, it’s important that we continue to seek God, and maintain a positive mindset. “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” – Isaiah 43:19. Today’s blog entry is titled “Keep Moving Forward”.

Throughout the course of our lives we are given opportunities. And sometimes looking back, we may wish we had done some things differently. It’s important that we learn from past mistakes, and do a better job moving forward; however we shouldn’t continue to beat ourselves up over mistakes we have made in the past. Think of it like this, if a quarterback throws an interception during the first quarter of a football game. He should recognize what he did wrong so he can make the proper adjustment(s) in the future, and then move forward. When he comes back into the game after his team has possession of the ball again, he should be focused on advancing the ball and scoring (as opposed to replaying his earlier mistake over and over again in his mind). Likewise as we move forward, we should be focused on carrying out God’s plan for our lives.

“Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
– Psalms 37:4-5

When we truly seek God, we allow ourselves to get an understanding of what He wants us to do, and His desires for us also become our desires for ourselves. When a person is seeking God and spending time with Him, one of the by-products will be that they want to obey God, and be the person He has called them to be. So as we continue to progress in this New Year, it’s important that we monitor the things that we take into our lives (the music we listen to, the things we watch, the people we spend time around) as they can have an effect on the way we think (our mindset). And our mindset can affect the way that we approach life. It’s also important that we renew our minds with the Word of God on a daily basis. We should have a good understanding of what the Bible says, and we should be giving our best effort to live it out in our lives.

Let’s spend this New Year getting closer to God than we’ve ever gotten before. Let’s stay motivated, and make a constant effort to help others. Don’t allow fear to stop you from doing what God has called you to do. Trust God. Stand on His Word. And keep moving forward!

“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:14
