Leadership

Have you ever seen a manager who was able to come into a work situation and get much better results from the people that he/she managed than the previous manager who had the same core group of people? Today’s blog entry deals with leadership. “Lead me, O Lord in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.” - Psalm 5:8.

As Christians, it’s important that we do our best to represent Jesus at all times. You may not always realize it, but there’s a big chance that someone else is watching you and learning things from you. The way we act, the things we say, and the image that we portray can greatly impact people’s view of Christianity. There are many people who don’t go to church, so they form their opinion of what Christianity is about based on their interactions with people who say they are Christians. We should always realize who we are in Christ, and never compromise who we are in Him in order to be considered cool by others.

So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands. Psalm 78:72

When God allows us to be in any type of leadership position (whether it’s inside the church or outside the church) we should lead with the utmost integrity. A manager at a job should not be taking prolonged breaks (not authorized by the company) since they know that they’re in charge and “no one else in watching” (God is always watching). Instead, they should set a good example for the other employees, and do their work as unto the Lord.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

A leader should be humble and they should never abuse their authority. Leaders should always seek God for direction; they should realize that they themselves don’t have all the answers. As it says in James 1:5, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” A leader should be strong, and able to endure challenges.

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. – 1 Peter 4:10

Someone who leads should be able to effectively communicate with the people they are leading without being fearful, and without losing their composure. If there is a problem that needs to be fixed, the leader should be able to speak to the parties who are responsible for fixing the problem in a way that is respectful. A leader should know how and when to delegate responsibilities to others. Leaders should want to see the people they are leading grow and mature. So as we lead throughout our daily lives, let us make sure that we are always following Christ’s example.

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.
1 Peter 5:2-3
