Living According To The Word Of God

“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” - James 1:8….It’s important that we don’t send mixed signals by the way we live our lives. Today’s blog entry is called “Living according To the Word of God”.

The Bible is very clear on the way we should live our lives. That’s why it’s very important that we read, and have a good understanding of the Word. And it doesn’t stop there. It’s also important that we apply the Word of God to our everyday lives, obeying what it says. This isn’t to say that we will never make mistakes, but rather that God’s standard should always be the standard that we base our lives off of. We shouldn’t allow the World’s system to negatively influence the way we think. For instance, in popular culture fornication (pre-marital sex) has become accepted by many as a normal way of life. However, the bible let’s know that pre-marital sex is a sin.

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." – 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

There are many people who have made up a “god” in their mind that “allows” them to do what they want to do. It’s a form of idolatry. It’s important to understand that the True and Living God is Holy. As it says in 1 Peter 1:16 “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”….. People can’t just live however they want and expect Him to honor that (Remember the story of Cain and Abel….See Genesis chapter 4). Hell is a real place, and people who die without Jesus Christ go there. This is so serious, and yet so many people get caught up in the pleasures of this life, and disregard what the Bible says on a regular basis, following the desires of their flesh.

A person can’t just pick and choose certain parts of the Bible that they want to follow and be a Christian. We need to accept the ENTIRE BIBLE as the truth and follow what it says. Reading and quoting scripture is good, but it’s also important to obey what we read. Think about it like this, if you went to a restaurant and ordered your favorite meal, and the waitress wrote down what you ordered, and repeated it back to you several times, and yet brought you out a plate with something totally different than what you ordered, you probably wouldn’t be very happy about it. Likewise we can read the Bible and quote scripture all day, but if we then turn around and do the total opposite of what we’ve read/quoted, God is not pleased with that.

If we notice that we have been double minded in a certain area of our lives, we need to repent, and get back on the right path. Don’t allow things such as “trying to please other people” to take you off of the path that God has put you on. Stay focused, be strong, and continue to make progress.

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” – James 1:22
