Living For Eternity

“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” – Matthew 25:21. After this life is over, every person wants to hear the words “Well Done”. The important thing is to make sure you’re prepared, and have lived a life that will allow you to hear those words. Today’s blog entry is titled “Living For Eternity”.

Picture this…..You’re standing before Jesus Christ. Your family and friends are not there. It’s you and Jesus. At that moment, it won’t matter: how many friends you had, how successful of a career you had, how many awards you won, etc. Doing good deeds will not get a person into Heaven. Isaiah 64:6 lets us know “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”….. Human righteousness is as filthy rags, we must receive Jesus Christ in order to be saved (and have Eternal Life…See John 14:6).

With this being said, much of society is focused on things that are temporary. And it’s important that we do not allow this to rub off on us. We should be focused on spreading the Gospel to others, letting them know about the importance of living for Jesus Christ. There are so many ways that a person can be distracted, and caught up in the cares of this life. There are many people that do not understand the way salvation works, they just expect to automatically go to Heaven after they die. Take a moment and think about how long Eternity is…..Not a million years…..Not a billion years…..But FOREVER. And I think it’s safe to say that most (if not all) of us have people in our lives that we know who are not saved (and thus would go to Hell if they died at the moment). So we should honestly ask ourselves, have I really shared the Gospel with these people. We should also look at how we witness to others in general. Is making disciples a priority in our lives?....It most definitely should be. Matthew 28:19 tells us “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”….If we truly love people, we should want them to be saved, we should be willing to tell them the truth even if we feel they may reject what we have to say.

So as we live our lives, let us remember to keep things in their proper perspective. Let’s examine our true motives. People may be able to fool other people, but they definitely can’t fool God. We all will have to give an account for the way we live our lives on earth. So let’s live our lives in a way that glorifies God.

“But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”- 1 Samuel 16:7
