Living Life With An Eternal Perspective

"Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed." - John 6:27. It’s important that we live life with an eternal perspective. We will all have to give an account to God for the way that we lived on earth. Today's blog entry is titled “Living Life With An Eternal Perspective”.

In today’s society there are many different things that can distract us if we’re not careful. Sometimes people allow things such as: personal goals, the desire to be successful, relationships, etc, to become their primary focus in life. With this is mind, it’s very important that we renew our mind with the Word of God daily (See Romans 12:2). God should be our primary focus; He should always be first in our lives.

Have you ever had a time in your life where you spent more time with God than you normally do, and as a result, it really opened your eyes to some things? For example, say you have a person that normally watches a lot of TV, who decided to go on a week-long fast (which included not watching TV). During this fast, they spent a lot of time praying and reading the Bible. After completing the fast, they feel stronger in their walk with God. When they turn the TV back on, they also notice that a lot of the stuff they were watching contained content that was in direct violation of God’s Word, and as a result, the person no longer has a desire to watch certain TV shows. When we spend more time with God, we will have a desire to be more like Him.

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;”- 2 Corinthians 4:17

The Christian walk can be filled with many different challenges; however we should never allow these challenges to cause to stop living for Jesus. There may be times when people distance themselves from you because you are living a Christian lifestyle, but don’t let that discourage you. Remind yourself that God will never leave your nor forsake you (See Hebrews 13:5). It’s also important that we remind ourselves of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. If He was willing to endure pain and suffering for us, we should be willing to endure the challenges we go through, and continue to live for Him.

And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come. – Luke 19:13

If you notice, the verse above says “Occupy till I come”. I use this verse because I want to point out the fact that living with an eternal perspective doesn’t mean that we should sit around being idle doing nothing waiting for Jesus to come back. We should be good stewards over the resources God has blessed us with. We should continue to make progress in our lives; however we should keep things in their proper perspective. So as we continue to live for Jesus, let us life our lives with an eternal perspective, and continue to grow in our understanding of the Word of God.

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. – John 4:14
