Maintain Your Integrity

Have you ever been around someone that appears to be a good trustworthy individual, yet in certain types of business situations, they lie, cheat, and do dishonest things to try to get ahead? In today’s society many people lie on a regular basis within the course of doing business (and outside of business as well). Today’s blog entry deals with maintaining your integrity.

“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit serving the Lord.”- Romans 12:11

In today’s society, many people are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their definition of success, even if it means compromising their integrity. As Christians, it’s very important that we do not allow ourselves to adapt those types of practices. We should always work as unto the Lord. What I mean by that is, even when we are working “secular” jobs, we should still do them in a way that gives God glory. If you’re a salesperson, be honest about the product/service you are selling. If you’re selling a product that will last approximately 5 years, don’t tell your prospective customer that it will last for 15. If you’re a builder, building a house for someone, don’t use products that are cheaper (and thus wont be as durable) than what you and your customer agreed to, and then try to pass them off as the same thing. These are just a couple of examples, but in just about every job situation there is some type of way that people can “work the system”. It could be misrepresenting time logs, adding more than what you have really done to your production numbers, etc.

In some cases lying can even be ingrained into the culture of a company. And if an individual is not careful, they can find themselves doing some of the same dishonest things as their co-workers. That’s why it’s so important that we renew our minds daily. Remember that we are in the world, but not of the world.

“A GOOD name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1
