Make the Most of the Opportunites God Gives You

“And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. - Matthew 25:25-27...When God gives us an opportunity, we should do the best that we can with it. Today's blog deals with avoiding missed opportunities.

The scriptures listed above are from a passage in the Bible known as “The Parable of the Talents” (Matthew 25:14-30). It deals with 3 different servants that were given talents. One servant was given 5 talents, one servant was given 2 talents, and one servant was given 1 talent. The first two servants went out and gained more talents (The one who started with 5 gained 5 more giving him a total of 10, the one who started with 2 gained 2 more giving him a total of 4) . While the third servant, buried the (1) talent that he received and didn't gain any additional talents. And as a result here's what happened.:

“Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” - Matthew 25:28-30

The servant that received 1 talent became fearful, and didn't take advantage of the opportunity that he received, and the 1 talent that he had was taken away. In our Christian walk it's important that we don't allow fear (or anything else) to stop us from doing what God has assigned us to do. When God gives us an assignment, we need to go out and complete the assignment. We shouldn't make excuses as to why we can't do it, we should seek God for guidance and direction, and we should move forward.

It's important that we truly submit ourselves to God, and avoid trying to take things into our own hands. We shouldn't try to control things that God has not given us the authority to control. We may not always feel comfortable with the things God has called us to do, but we should obey him regardless.

“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.” - Isaiah 1:19-20

Make no mistake about it, God loves us (see John 3:16). He knows what's best for us. He wants us to complete the assignments He has given us. With that being said, we should never get to the point, where we waste time, and feel like we are the only person that God can use for a specific task/role in life. God could easily raise up another person to fulfill that task/role. So as we live our lives, let us take advantage of every opportunity that God gives us. “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” - Hebrews 11:6
