Our Thoughts

Imagine if your thoughts from the past week could be broadcast to the entire world. What would they reveal? Our thought life can play a major role in the results we produce and the direction our life is heading in. If thoughts that are not of God come into our mind, it’s important that we counter-act those thoughts with the Word of God. Today’s blog entry deals with our thoughts.

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee, but his heart is not with thee.” – Proverbs 23:7

We live in a society that constantly exposes us to things that are contrary to God’s word. For example, the Bible lets us know that there should be no sex outside of marriage, however this is something that a large percentage of the population totally disregards. Many television shows have characters living in fornication like it’s normal and acceptable.

And it doesn’t just stop with fornication. In general, many of the things shown on television show people dealing with things in a way that doesn’t line up with the Word of God. Things like the news, or even a medical drama can sow seeds of unbelief when they only present man made solutions to problems. For example, if your favorite news program or medical drama says/portrays that there is absolutely no cure for a specific type of medical condition, and you know someone with that condition, it can make you feel like there’s no hope. However shows/programs that make statements like that aren’t taking into account God’s healing power. Now don’t get me wrong television in and of itself is not bad. And television is not the only way that seeds of unbelief can be sown into people’s life (music, books, etc can also sow seeds of unbelief), but television may be one way that seeds of unbelief are being sown without people even realizing it.

It’s important that we constantly renew our minds and guard our minds against thoughts of unbelief. If you think about someone who is guarding something in a natural sense, they are basically defending a specific designated area so that nothing enters in that should not be there. We should take a similar approach with the things that we think about and meditate on.

Sometimes we may be in situations (such as work environments) where negative things are being spoken around us on a regular basis. And while we may not be able to control what everybody else is saying or doing, we can control the things that we mediate on. We need to continue to rehearse the Word of God. Sometimes the enemy may try to place ungodly thoughts in our mind, if those thoughts come, don’t dwell on them, instead shift your focus to God.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
