Overcome Evil With Good

Sometimes we may encounter people who may not be the easiest to get along with; however it’s important that don’t allow ourselves to respond to them in a sinful way. We should still show forth the love of Jesus Christ. “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21. Today’s blog entry is titled “Overcome Evil With Good”….

As Christians it’s important to live our lives in a way that glorifies God. We may encounter people who don’t like us for various reasons, but we should never allow them to bait us into doing things that don’t please God. In some situations the person may be an unbeliever, in which case we should pray for their salvation. In other situations the person maybe a Christian who has a weakness in that particular area, in which case we should pray that they mature in that area.

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.  For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” – Matthew 5:43-46

It’s important that we follow God’s example, instead of following the world’s example.  When someone does something that we don’t like, one of the first thoughts that may come to mind is to retaliate (we may even be encouraged by others to do so). But it’s very important that we don’t act on those thoughts. As it says in Romans 12:19, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” Remember God knows the truth. He sees the motives behind the things people do. We shouldn’t allow people to get us riled up, we should be focused on pleasing God.

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us remember that it is important that we respond to conflict the right way. We shouldn’t hold grudges, we shouldn’t be bitter. We should forgive and continue to stay focused on the assignments God has given us. Overcome evil with good!

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” – 2 Corinthians 10:5
