Perseverance

Do you speak the Word of God (The Bible) over your life? When you face a challenge do you say things such as “I can’t do this”, or do you say things such as “My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:2….Today’s blog deals with perseverance.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
- Galatians 6:9

Each and everyday we should be renewing our minds with the Word of God. We should read and rehearse scriptures, and continue to build upon the knowledge of God’s Word that we already have. The mindset that we have can play a large role in the way that we approach life. Instead of focusing on what has gone wrong in our lives, we should focus on God’s glory, and all the great things He has done for us.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.” - Philippians 4:13

As born again Christians, it’s important for us to remember that our strength comes from Christ. When God has given us an assignment, we should have faith that He will allow us to successfully complete what He’s chosen us to do. Instead of trying to explain to God why you aren’t the right person for the task, realize that God has given you the strength you need to carry out the task.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28

When we truly love God, and are focused on obeying Him, we are able to appreciate that He’s in control, and that He knows what’s best for us. Growth is a process and sometimes things may not always make sense to us as humans, but when we love God, we can trust that He is doing what’s best for us.

When I was in high school, I took a pottery class during my senior year. The teacher of class had also coached me in athletics in the past. Looking back, there was so much to be learned from that class because I got to see/participate in the pottery process first hand. And let me tell you, it is a process! I’m not going to go into great detail here (if you get a chance you may want to research the pottery process), but there’s a lot that goes on during the pottery process (some of which can vary from project to project) such as: putting your clay on the wheel/shaping, having your clay put into the kiln/heating, coloring/glazing, etc…It can be a very interesting process to see something that was a slice of clay end up as a bowl, mug, etc. At some stages of the process the object may look funny or awkward to people who don’t understand what the end result is going to be, but after they see it, it makes a lot more sense. Likewise in our walk with God, it may be hard to understand why we’re going through certain situations, but when we see the end result, it will make a lot more sense. Stay encouraged!

“But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” – Isaiah 64:8
