Repentance

“If my people, which are called by name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 2:14 …It’s important that we repent on a regular basis, and avoid opening the doors of our lives to the enemy. Today’s blog entry deals with repentance.

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

Each and every one of us has done sinful things (both before and after receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior). It’s important that we are constantly examining ourselves to make sure that we are not opening the door to the enemy in areas of our life. We should never get to the point where we feel like we can’t make any mistakes. There’s always room for growth. If you find yourself in a sinful situation, you should repent (turn away from it, and stop doing it). Never try to justify doing something that is sinful. Instead be honest with yourself, and with God (He already knows what you’re dealing with anyway), and work towards a solution to avoid the same problem in the future. “And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” – Matthew 3:2. As born again Christians, we have a role to play in the body of Christ. Allowing sin (regardless of how “small of a sin” we may think it is) into our lives can definitely disrupt how we function in the assignments God has given us. Remember that the pleasures of sin only lasts for a season (see Hebrews 11:25).

“But every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” - James 1:14-15

The above passage of scripture in James helps us to get an understanding of the process of sin. It’s important that we don’t allow ourselves to be enticed by sinful things. As Christians, we should have a mindset to serve God to the best of our ability. Instead of focusing on what our flesh wants to do, we should focus on what God’s Word says to do. If we find ourselves being enticed by sinful things, we should renew our minds with the Word, and spend time in prayer, asking God to help us avoid being drawn away of our own lusts. Sin is serious, we shouldn’t take it lightly. Don’t give into temptation. Don’t make excuses for sinning. If you have been battling with a specific sin, make sure that you close off the entry points. Speak the word of the Word of God. Encourage yourself. Be strong. God has given us the strength to endure the challenges that we go through.

“And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” - Luke 24:47
