Serve Others

As human beings, it can be very easy to get caught up in our own lives and serving ourselves, however it’s important that we follow the example of Jesus Christ, and serve others. “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” – 1 Peter 4:10. Today’s blog entry is titled “Serve Others”….

As Christians we should constantly give God the glory by the way we live our lives. Our service first starts with serving God, which includes being obedient to Him. And in obedience to God, we should also serve others. “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:28 (NKJV). When we serve others, we shouldn’t do it with a bad attitude or in a “going through the motions” type of way. We should do it in love. We should genuinely take pleasure in helping others.

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” – Philippians 2:3

It can be easy to focus on how certain things affect us in life, and yet overlook how certain things affect others around us. When we see things from another perspective we can gain a whole new insight regarding a situation. For example, say you have two people who are friends (I’ll refer to them as Person A and Person B). Person A is putting on a big event and expects Person B to come. However on the day of the event (Well after the event has started), Person A notices that Person B still hasn’t showed up yet, and becomes very angry….Only to later find out that Person B had a serious Family issue come up and had left a voice message earlier in the night to let Person A know. As a result, Person A’s whole view of the situation changes. In our lives it’s important to be considerate of others, and not just look at how things are affecting us.

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,  who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,  but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.  And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,” – Philippians 2:5-9 (NKJV)

As we continue to grow in our Christian walk, let us seek God for ways that we can provide service to others. And when God provides us with opportunities to serve, lets us genuinely do so in love.

“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.” – Matthew 23:11
