Serving Is Important

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1….Today’s blog entry is titled “Serving Is Important”.

What’s more important in your life…..Doing what you want to do? ….Or doing what God wants you to do? I’m quite sure most (if not all) people reading this would answer “Doing what God wants.” And while it’s definitely important to have that type of mindset, it’s also important that we actually live it out through our actions. In today’s society, a lot of the emphasis is often put on doing what feels good. However we should be striving to please God. We shouldn’t let the world’s bad habits rub off on us. We should live our lives according to the Word of God, and be a good example to unbelievers. It’s important to remember that we will have to give an account to God for the way that we lived our lives on earth. With this in mind, it’s important to stay focused, and not allow distractions to take us off the course that God has us on.

“If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” – Colossians 3:1-4

It’s good to have goals; however we should be seeking God for guidance and wisdom, so that we are pursuing what He wants us to pursue. We should be sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ on a regular basis, and helping others grow in their walk with Jesus Christ.

There are also many ways that we can provide acts of service to others (in a natural sense), some of which include: Giving someone a ride to church, cutting someone’s grass, volunteering, etc. The important thing is to be led by God in the things that we do. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to look at the big picture. What good would it do to have “earthly success”, and yet not be following God’s plan for our life? The Christian life is not about doing whatever we want to do; it’s about following Jesus Christ…..And Jesus is the ultimate example of a servant. He laid down His life so that we could have eternal life. And I am truly thankful!

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45
