Stay Humble, Keep Learning

“And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:3-4.

Today’s blog entry is titled “Stay Humble, Keep Learning”…Humility is an important part of the Christian walk. We should continue to seek God for guidance and direction, and never get to the point where we think we have everything figured out. Each day of our lives we have an opportunity to learn something new; so it’s important for us to remain teachable. When things are brought to our attention that we can improve about ourselves (whether it’s in a job setting, amongst family/friends, or other types of everyday situations), we should use it as an opportunity to continue to grow. I’ve received constructive criticism at various points in my life, and it has definitely helped me to grow as an individual.

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” – James 4:6

Having a proud/prideful attitude can lead to many problems. As James 4:6 lets us know, God resists the proud; And that’s definitely not a position that we want to be in. None of us are perfect; we all need God’s grace. When evangelizing, this is an important thing to bring up. There are many unbelievers who feel like they have done enough “good deeds” in their life to get them to Heaven. However, “good deeds” can’t forgive sins. A person must receive Jesus Christ in order to be saved (and go to Heaven). As it says in John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remain humble. If God uses other people to show us areas in our lives that we can improve upon, we shouldn’t take offense. We should take it as an opportunity to learn and continue to make progress.

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” – Psalm 37:23
