The Importance of Patience

“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” – James 1:4. Today’s blog entry is titled “The Importance of Patience”…

Can you think back to a time when you saved up your money to buy something that you really wanted? As you were saving your money, there may have been times when you saw other items that caught your attention; However by spending your money on those smaller items, it would have added to the overall amount of time it would take you to buy the main item you were saving for.

In our Christian walk, it’s important to continue to trust God and have patience even if things don’t seem to be happening as quickly as we would like them to. The experiences that God allows us to go through can teach us many valuable lessons and prepare us for other situations we will encounter later on in life. Taking shortcuts may seem enticing at times, but they can lead to other problems down the road. Think of it like this, a soldier is getting trained to go into battle; however there are certain things about training that the soldier doesn’t like, so he/she finds a way to sneak out of certain drills/conditioning exercises. It may seem like he/she is getting away with not having to train as hard, however when the real battle starts, that solider will be at a disadvantage in certain areas. As Christians, it’s important that we persevere and endure the entire process that God takes us through.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” –Galatians 6:9

Towards the beginning of this entry I talked about thinking back to a time when you saved money to buy something you really wanted…Along the way you may have been tempted to spend the money on other things, but if you went the full distance and bought the item you wanted; There was likely a sense of satisfaction that you had from waiting and getting what you actually wanted. In our Christian walk there may be times when the path we’re on seems challenging, but if we continue to stay on the path God has us on, we’ll see that it was the best thing for us to do long term (and short term). It’s important that we view things from an eternal perspective, and keep our faith in Jesus Christ!

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31
