Walk In Love

As Christians it’s important that we show forth love to others. “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” – Ephesians 5:1-2 (NKJV). Today’s blog entry is titled “Walk In Love”…

Love is obviously something that is very important to us as Christians. Jesus loved us so much that He laid down His life for us. This is something that we should always be thankful for. As we live our lives we may encounter people who are challenging for us to get along with (or do things that annoy us). In those situations we should still show forth love. Maybe you’re out at a restaurant and the waitress is really messing up your order (trying hard to get it right, but still messing up). Instead of being mean to her, we should be patient with her, and think about how Jesus would respond in a situation like that. Or maybe the cashier at the store is moving slow and taking longer than you would like them to during the checkout process. It’s during these times that we can either respond out of frustration, or we can respond out of love. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating that it’s a good idea for people to do subpar work at their jobs. However as Christians, we should remember to still represent Jesus Christ when we’re out in public in everyday situations. Sometimes a worker could be having a really bad day. Maybe they found out some bad news….And the fact that you were patient with them and showed forth love could serve as encouragement and help them get through what they were dealing with.

“But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.” – Ephesians 5:3-4 (NKJV)

As Christians we should love God more than anything else (See Matthew 22:37). And if we love Him we should obey Him (See John 14:15). It’s important that we live our lives in a way that honors God. We should not conform to the World’s sinful way of doing things. Christians are set apart and we should live our lives as such. We should speak the truth to people, even if it goes against what’s popular in society. If we truly love people we shouldn’t allow the fear of how they will respond to cause us to avoid sharing the Gospel with them. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus Christ, let us remember to love God more than anything else. Let us also remember to show forth love to others…Inside the church, and outside of the church.

“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;  not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;  rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.” – Romans 12:9-13 (NKJV)
