What Are You Thinking About?

“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.” – Proverbs 23:7.  The way a person thinks can play a major role in the type of progress they make throughout the course of their life. Today’s blog entry is titled “What are you thinking about?”

The way a person thinks can impact the way they act, and the way a person acts can impact the type of results they produce. It’s important to for us to be thankful to God, and realize that we are blessed. There may be times in life when you experience challenging things, but don’t let thoughts of despair/depression fill your mind. Focus your attention to God, and how awesome He is. Go to the Bible and read about all the great things He has done. Spend time in prayer praising God, and asking Him for wisdom on how to handle your current situation.

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” – Joshua 1:8

As human beings living in this society, it can be easy to respond to situations the same way that we’ve seen other people respond. For instance, if someone receives bad news, one of the first responses for a person can often be that of panic/fear/worry; However as Christians we should remember “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”- 2 Timothy 1:7.  We shouldn’t allow fear to dominate us; we should remain calm, and seek God for the way we should proceed.

It’s important for us to remember to follow God’s Word in every area of our life. What I mean by this is sometimes people try to pick and choose what they want to follow in the Bible. They may follow what it says about prayer, however ignore what it says in regards to a relationship/purity, (because they would rather follow what society says is ok in that area). We should use the Bible as our standard, and not the opinions of other people. Even if a person is professing to be a Christian, we should still check to make sure the advice they give lines up with the Bible.

So as we continue to grow in our walk with Jesus, let us make sure that we approach life with the right mindset. If you’re up against a challenge, do not let it cause you to worry. If negative thoughts start entering your mind, quickly counter those thoughts with the Word of God. Be mindful of the things that you watch and listen to. Be strong and continue to have faith in Jesus Christ!

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8
