When No One Else Is Watching

In last week’s blog post, the focus was on living a Godly lifestyle in front of others. The focus of this blog entry is living a Godly lifestyle when no one else is watching. “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” – Proverbs 15:3 Today’s blog entry is titled “When No One Else Is Watching”….

Before I go any further, I want to make sure I point out the fact that I understand that people make mistakes... “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” – Romans 3:23 ….The purpose of this blog entry isn’t to tear people down, but rather to encourage people to be strong in their walk and make wise decisions. With that being said, I think it’s very important to realize that the things we do when no one else is watching can say a lot about who we are (and where we are with God). Living a Christian lifestyle in front of people is extremely important, however if a person only lives a Christian lifestyle when they feel like people are watching, then something is wrong. “Not getting caught” should not dictate the way we live our lives. As Christians we should have a genuine desire to obey God, and please Him with the way we carry ourselves. God sees the things we do; we can’t hide anything from Him.

“But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” – James 1:14-15

If someone ever feels like they are dealing with a (sinful) habit that they can’t stop doing, they should remember that they can do all things through Christ which strengthens them (See Philippians 4:13). They should seek God for a plan of action to help them avoid falling into the same traps they’ve fallen into in the past. A person should never be ashamed to ask God for help.

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” - Matthew 16:24

As Christians we are set apart. And we should constantly be spending time with God. Remember, this life is not about us doing whatever we want to do; it’s about serving God, and carrying out His will. Sometimes you may feel like you’re the “odd person out” as far as your interactions with other people go. But don’t be discouraged, and don’t compromise to try to fit in with the world (also don’t compromise because you think no one will see what you’re doing). Get connected with other born again Christians, and encourage one another.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

Stay strong, keep building, and honor God, even when you feel like no one else is watching.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – James 4:7
