Wisdom To Recieve

So picture this… you FINALLY receive the thing you have desired to have…or you are FINALLY given the opportunity that you have long been waiting for. Would you really be able to handle it if it where given to you??? Many times we desire to have things, but it’s important to make sure we have the wisdom to maintain what God gives us.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” – Proverbs 4:7

Many times in society we see people who were provided with great opportunities, or who made large sums of money, only to squander it, and be back in the same (or sometimes worse) position they were in prior. Being blessed with an opportunity or desire of our heart can be a great feeling, however it is very important that we are faithful in maintaining the blessings/assignments that God gives us. Matthew 25:14-28 deals with the parable of the talents (talents represent large units of money in this parable). In this passage of scripture there were 3 individuals who were given talents. Two of them doubled what they had however the other person buried their talent (didn’t put it to use). Many times when we are blessed with something, it’s only the beginning of a process that will take a lot of energy and effort on our part. For example, an athlete can be extremely talented, however if they don’t train and keep themselves in shape, they will not reach their full potential. Proverbs 12:24 says “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.”

Another unfortunate thing that happens to some people after they are blessed with something they have long desired, is that they make an idol out of it and take their focus off of God (I’m not saying this always happens, but it does happen sometimes). This is obviously a huge mistake. It’s important to make sure our hearts are pure before God, and that we truly put (and keep) Him first in our lives. As we walk down the path God has set before us, we should do so with integrity. We should never allow ourselves to compromise by doing sinful things in order to “get ahead in life”. “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labor shall increase.”- Proverbs 13:11.

When you believe that God will do something for you (whether it’s providing you with a new job, or allowing you to lead a ministry), it’s important that you put works with your faith and prepare yourself. It’s a good idea to have some sort of roadmap specific to your situation that details what you will do, and how you will get things accomplished. For example, in many cases, someone who is a potential investor in a business will want to see a business plan, before they invest money. They want to know how you will put their money to use. Have you thought about how you would put God’s resources to use if He allowed you to have what you’ve asked Him for?

When we obey and seek God, we put ourselves in a position to receive from Him. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” - Hebrews 11:6......If we are obedient to God, then we will be able to handle recieving the blessings He gives us.
