Working Together

“But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.” – 1 Corinthians 12:20-21…It’s important that we (members of the body of Christ) work together to carry out the assignments that God has given us. Today’s blog entry deals with working together with other Christians.

Before I go any further, I want to make it clear that we should use the Bible as our guide. If someone professes to be a Christian, and yet is trying to get to us to accept/do things that are contrary to scripture, we should obviously avoid what they are trying to get us to do. With that being said, the body of Christ is made up of many different types of people that have different types of talents/gifts. When God sends people into our lives that have different talents/gifts than we do (or similar talents/gifts with a different approach) we should be willing to learn from them.

“And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” - Ecclesiastes 4:12

When we work together and play our roles, a lot can be accomplished. For example, think about a basketball team. During a basketball game there are 5 players from each team on the court at the same time. Generally they’re going to be 2 guards, 2 forwards, and 1 center. If a team tries to put 5 guards in the game at the same time (or 5 forwards/centers) they are likely going to run in some matchup issues with the other team they are playing against. Each position has strengths that help compliment the other positions on the team. As Christians, it’s important that we allow our talents/gifts to compliment one another. Remember we’re on the same team.

“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11

We should be open to hearing new ideas and trying new approaches. We should never get to the point where we feel like we have everything figured out. It’s important that we always remain humble. We should help/support our brothers and sisters in Christ, and we should also be able to receive help/support from our brothers and sisters in Christ. So as we continue to grow in our walk with Christ, let us work together to spread the Gospel.

“And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked. That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” 1 Corinthians 12:23-27
